Looking forward – 2009

Posted by: Crystal King on: January 5, 2009

Has it really been since August since I posted here last? Wow.  I mean, sometimes I have a little lapse in blogging but wow, that’s a long one for me.
It’s that polymath in me…my interests lying in so many areas that I tend to become distracted by the latest obsession in one of those fields. [...]

Can Writing Help You Lose Weight?

Posted by: Crystal King on: February 20, 2008

Julia Cameron thinks that it can. Her latest book, The Writing Diet–Write Yourself the Right-Size, touts the idea that when you are creative and you focus your efforts on “counting words not calories” that you can also lose weight in the process.
I’m a sucker for:

books on writing
books on creativity
any combination of the above that might [...]

Here’s to a Creative 2008!

Posted by: Crystal King on: January 1, 2008

I’ve been a bit lax on blogging since before Thanksgiving. NANOWRIMO had me busy, so did traveling for work, so did all the holidays. I’m fairly sure that I’m not an isolated case–everything seems to get back on track after the New Year.
That’s the case in particular with my writing. I’ve not made resolutions, but [...]

NANOWRIMO and Curses

Posted by: Crystal King on: November 18, 2007

I’ve not really been cursing NANOWRIMO…mostly just cussing out myself for being so behind. I’m at 20,005 words when I should be closer to 30,000. But I have two full days to catch up before we get wrapped up in Thanksgiving, so hopefully I can get a little closer.
I wrote a curse scene today, another [...]

NANOWRIMO Day 6

Posted by: Crystal King on: November 6, 2007

2100 words for total of 13194.
Total for my book right now–41, 670. Approx 171 pages 12pt double spaced.
Neck loathes me.

NANOWRIMO Day 5

Posted by: Crystal King on: November 5, 2007

1686 words = 11,094 total = an aching neck and back for sitting hunched over my laptop for so many hours in the last few days…

With NANOWRIMO around the corner, I thought I would share some info on some of the tools that I use to help further my writing.
First off, in my last post I mentioned Holly Lisle’s great guides to writing fiction and building worlds, e-books that are unlike any writing book you’ll encounter in a book store, [...]

Dreary, Rainy

Posted by: Crystal King on: October 8, 2007

Mind over matter

In the tedious dark
of my rain-soaked morning,
three red leaves fall.
Yellow button mushrooms
absorb water like thick sponges.
I wilt beneath
bright flourescent lights.

Didn’t manage 4k this weekend but I did do a lot of editing out Apicius POV as well as added 1755 words in a new chapter. Between the two I probably managed about [...]

The Wheel of Time Turns

Posted by: Crystal King on: September 17, 2007

For me, writing is cyclical. I tend to go through spurts of writing and then it tapers off for a bit. Lately it’s tapered down but I need/want to get into a more steady cycle. If I can manage to write at least 500+ words five days a week (the real goal is 1k but [...]

Perhaps She Caught a Tesseract: RIP Madeleine L’Engle

Posted by: Crystal King on: September 8, 2007

News of her passing just came out in the NY Times.
I just wrote about her a little over a week ago, about the wonderful advice she gave in the book, Madeleine L’Engle {Herself}, how inspirational she was and how I met her briefly when I was in the 7th grade. Oh how I wish I [...]
