I have read that it is best to stay away from the genre you’re working in while writing, but I have found for me it is better if I stay away from my favorite authors. It’s way too tempting to copy their voice rather than use my own.

Hi, Crystal. I took the creativity class with you and loved it. Can’t wait for your book on that subject to come out too.

It’s going to be my first Muse and the Marketplace and I’m really excited. Grub Street’s website says the Muse keynote speaker will be Ann Patchett. (I heard Jonathan Franzen keynoted last year.) I love her writing so am psyched. Hopefully will run into you there.

Wow, thank you so much for giving me the word to describe myself: polymath. I decided in childhood (maybe around the ages of 8 or 9) that I didn’t want to know everything about one thing, but a little bit about everything; I continue to honor that philosophy.

Trying to find what to do with my life however as a polymath has made things very difficult. Recently I decided to study library science because I believe that will give me opportunties to continue learning more tidbits about everything.

I look forward to seeing your blog entries in the future.

I am so skeptical of these sorts of devices. There is nothing quite like the smell of books or the thrill of turning the page. I’m not sure I would enjoy reading off of a screen.

I love to mark up my books–highlighting things, writing in the margins, making comments…and you can’t do that with these devices.

I’m all for saving the trees, but I’m not sure I could sacrifice actual books.

I sort of have this dream where I’ll have my own huge library to peruse… and while you may be able to store x amount of information on these things, I don’t think they will have the longevity that books provide.

Dunno… that’s just me, playing devils advocate. Sorry.
