Wow. I wrung another 4077 words out today. Total for NANOWRIMO: 9408 or 19% of the way there. Not too bad for only being four days in. I figure that there will be at least 6-7 days this month where I won’t be able to write anything so I wanted to try and get ahead while I could.
Today I wrote a whole scene that I had specifically not planned on writing. Seriously. I wasn’t planning on putting Livia Drusilla, Augustus Caesar’s wife, into the mix. She is TOO historical in a sense. There are too many known factors about her and to put her so specifically into the story takes my novel to another level that I wasn’t sure I wanted to take it to. But today, as I sat down and started writing. She invited herself (quite literally) to a party that dear Apicius was attending. And then she explained that she wanted to buy Thrasius from him! And Apicius told the most powerful woman in the world NO. Oy! For those of you who follow my snippets you can imagine the conundrum. Suddenly that mixes everything up.
I think though, that the place where I added that in is too early in the story. I have a feeling that in the edits I’ll be moving it to a chapter much farther in, but at least the scene is written. Plus I am pretty sure how Livia will get her revenge…
Very happy that the NANOWRIMO site seems to be back on track!
I’m also thinking that I should take a trip to the MFA at some point. I’ve not visited the museum since before I started researching and writing my book. They have one of the largest ancient collections on view and I’m bound to get a little inspiration. Maybe I’ll take a break next weekend and go for a little bit.
Lol, she runs around in A Land Unconquered as well.
But what a fun development for the plot.

I’ve never had the guts to do historical fiction. Pretty impressive that you invited that big of a historical figure to a party.
Keep going! Sounds like you’re making leaps of progress!
